A SMALL MOVE YOU CAN USE TODAY

What’s inside

Keep your warmth. Give the reader a clearer point to respond to.

FROM THE GUIDE / Make one edit

Read the last message you sent. Find one of the three habits below and write the shorter version.

01 / RECOGNIZE

Before an opinion: “I hope this comes across well.”

Try stating the point directly: “I think we need another day to review this.” Add your reason if it helps. An apology may be appropriate when you have caused harm; a routine recommendation does not need one by default.

02 / RESPOND

After sharing work: “Let me know if it’s useful.”

Name the use: “The first page compares the two options. Happy to adjust it for the review.” If you need feedback, ask for it specifically: “Which option fits the budget?” The recipient now knows what you are offering and what kind of response would help.

03 / FOLLOW THROUGH

When asked about you: your entire background

Start with what you do and why it matters to this conversation. Example: “I help operations teams reduce handoff errors.” Pause, then expand if they ask.
